Not necessarily an argument I would make, but an argument none the less.
There are severe problems with both shows, but on the whole I prefer Sherlock, although I only made it through about 4 episodes of Elementary. I found Elementary to be a bit too formulaic, and while Sherlock suffers from being a bit too cute and hip a bit too often, it's very entertaining and doesn't make me feel like I'm watching Law and Order.
The author of this article disagrees, somewhat, although honestly I think we're pretty much on the same page but just have slightly different tolerances for different stuff.
