Some cool books I've seen lately
I am dying to get back to Heinrich/Carcosa, but a combination of real* work and holiday stuff have kept me from getting to it lately.
In the meantime, here are some late holiday book suggestions. They definitely won't be here in time for Christmas but you can do the thing where you print out the picture of the book from the webpage and put it in a card (it'll be here soon I swear)
The first is the Book of Fuligin: Honoring the Legacy of Gene Wolfe which I know was a Kickstarter at some point. I missed it but will definitely be picking this up. The Book of the New Sun is not the most Lovecraftian thing but it is some of the coolest and most vivid fantasy of the last 100 years, and very formative to my tastes. It is why, to this day, I mostly wear a cloak with no shirt on my way to perform my state sanctioned executions. Despite not having Severian's abs.
Hey, I know I'm recommending it but I am not buying it until January so leave some for me.
The other is DARK DUNGEON MUSIC: THE UNLIKELY STORY OF DUNGEON SYNTH. As I get older and whatever cultural resonance I had evaporates, I find I increasingly only want to listen to music made on a small scale. Dungeon synth has an irresistible aesthetic and I find it way easier to code and write to than black metal. There's been some unfortunate characters linked with the genre but for the most part it's pretty wholesome bleeps and blorps about Tolkien and Keep on the Borderlands.
